Designing with Purpose: My Journey to Create Nursing-Friendly Apparel

The OC Journey..

I started OC after experiencing the frustration of not having enough coverage while breastfeeding and the waste of nursing covers once I was done with breastfeeding. I wanted to create something multi-functional — a single piece of cloth that could be used for breastfeeding, prayer, as a pram cover, a blanket, and, when you’re done with breastfeeding, even as a skirt.

While marketing the multi-purpose cover, I realized I wasn’t just promoting a product — I was also sharing my personal style. I loved showing how easily the cover could transform into a skirt, and that’s when I started reselling clothes to highlight how our covers could pair perfectly with all kinds of tunics. It made me think, “Why not create clothing that’s all nursing-friendly?”

To feel good, inside and out.
Everyday.. Always.

For years, I’ve been collecting tunics from my trips to Japan, and I’ve always admired the loose, modest designs of Japanese brands. The one thing I noticed missing was nursing-friendly features like zippers or buttons. Inspired by these memories and the pieces I’ve collected over time, I decided to venture into apparel.

I also struggled with body acne and wanted to create clothes made from high-quality cotton — fabrics that are gentle on both our skin and our babies.

Whenever I design a new piece, I ask myself: Is this nursing-friendly? Is it loose enough? Is it comfy enough? Is it cute enough? Is it prayer-friendly?

OC might not be the most stylish brand, but my goal is always to create pieces that people will want to reach for every day.

“Living in Singapore means constantly battling the hot and humid weather, and I tend to sweat easily. But wearing O.C. makes it so much easier — it's airy, cute, modest and perfectly fits my frame.”
